Certain materials like wool can hold four times its weight in dirt. So, it’s critical to remove dry dirt before cleaning. Using compressed air, special vacuum attachments, a pile lifter, and other techniques, we loosen and remove as much embedded soil from your rug as possible, including dust, dirt, pet hair, and other abrasives.

We then pre-treat any difficult spots, stains, or pet urine sites using eco-friendly WoolSafe®-approved solutions to maximize their removal.

Our submersion handwashing simulates the age-old cleaning process of submerging rugs for hours in flowing rivers, effectively purging dirt and other substances from the rug.

  • We use a continuous flow of purified water, combined with a mild WoolSafe-approved pH-neutral cleaning solution for a deeper clean. We remove contaminants and prevent them from settling back into the rug again.
  • Rugs with particularly stubborn contaminants and odors, such as smoke and pet odors, are submerged for an extended period to ensure complete removal.
  • Each rug is washed individually to avoid cross-contamination and dye transfer from other rugs.

Using an air compressor blower, we blow out as much water as possible from the rug before taking it into the drying room. This shortens dry time and is much gentler on the rug’s fibers, fringe, and stitching.

Rugs finish drying in our heat & humidity-controlled drying room. The dry process takes between 8 to 24 hours to dry. Once completely dry, we use a soft, fine-rug comb to stand the pile in one direction.

In the “finishing” phase we do detail work.

  • We restore the rug’s fringe using a rug fringe comb.
  • We make repairs involving binding, patching, sergers, and selvages.
  • We complete any add-ons you may have ordered.
  • If you purchased a custom rug pad or Tyvek® RugWrap™, we cut it during this step.

Our certified Master Rug Cleaner meticulously inspects the finished rug to ensure it looks and smells its best. If he feels that the area rug has not yet reached its full potential, we will repeat the full cleaning process. Once the rug passes the final inspection, it will be released for pickup or delivery.

As the final step, we apply our Triple-Plus+ encapsulation sanitizer, deodorizer, and stain protector to the rug. This plant-based product forms a microscopic barrier around each fiber to enhance vacuuming, and it adds extended soil repellency and stain protection. Once the Triple-Plus+ has been applied, a Clean Choice team member will contact you to schedule your delivery or a time for you to pick up your area rug from our facility.

FAQs

At our state-of-the-art facility, we expertly clean the finest Oriental and area rugs. We first inspect the rug for special conditions or damage. We then remove as much dry soil as possible before putting the rug into a submersion water bath. Next, we hand-wash it to remove as much dirt and debris as possible from the fibers.

Once the rug has been thoroughly cleaned, we use an air compressor blower to gently remove excess moisture. The rug completes the drying phase in our drying room. Finally, it is taken to our Master Rug Cleaner for inspection and post detailing, including fringe work, repairs, custom-cut pads, and Tyvek rug wrapping.

We clean just about any rug you can think of. Whether it’s a treasured family heirloom or a mass-produced one you picked up at the store, you can trust our team to provide the best possible cleaning. We specialize in cleaning the following types of rugs: Oriental, Persian, Karastan, Chinese, tribal, Turkish, Indian, Pakistani, kilims, dhurries, flokati, shag; handmade, handwoven, machine-made, tufted, hand-tufted, braided, hand-hooked, flat-weave, tapestries, needlepoints; wool, natural fiber, synthetic, wool/silk blended, olefin, polypropylene, cotton, viscose, silk, cowhide, and more!

All of our products are eco-friendly and non-toxic. The products used specifically for area rug cleaning are all CRI™-, IICRC®-, and WoolSafe®-certified. We also have several products specific to the different materials used to construct your rug and to treat specific stains. We only use the safest and highest quality products when handling your valued rugs. They are safe for children, pets, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. They do not off-gas or emit VOCs.

Yes. With our in-plant area rug cleaning facility, we are often able to remove all or most of the urine from your rugs. We submerge the rugs in a water bath to allow water to flow freely through the fibers and remove as much urine as possible. In some instances, such as tufted rugs, we are not able to fully remove the urine and/or odor, as it is likely residing in the glue that holds the backing to the rug fibers. In this case, we recommend having the backing and glue removed and replaced. Call for more information and pricing.
