American History

If you own a Karastan rug, you have a piece of American history. The first rug was made on a modified Axminster broadloom on April 8, 1928, in Leakesville, N.C. Engineer and inventor Eugene Clark modified the loom so that it wove through the back, which simulated the look of a hand-knotted rug. Karastan was an American-made luxury wool “Oriental” rug available at an attainable price for middle-class Americans.
